Irene

In anticipation of my power going out, I am going to shut down my Game Server until the storm passes.  The authentication server will not be affected.  If you play on my server, feel free to play single player or on other compatible servers until Irene passes, and I feel comfortable having the server turned on.

Backup Utility

So it seems that my game server is having issues.  Just to be clear I am talking about my Game Server NOT the Authentication Server.  The Auth server has never had an issue, and will continue to work problem free! :)

While I have been trying to hunt down the cause of the game server problems, I have realized that I want to write a bakup utility for a Minecraft Server.  Since I already have a program that runs a Minecraft Server, I will build it into MineshafterSquared.  It will be optional and will be off by default.  I will introduce a MineshafterSquared properties file that will have the configuration needed to turn the backup on and off, set the interval for backups and the location to store them.

If there are any other features you would like to see in a Minecraft Server backup utility, please let me know.  I am going to slowly build more features into the MineshafterSquared server software (all of it will be optional and off by default) to try to make MineshafterSquared more than just an authentication measure.  As always you can respond to this posting, post in the forums or email me a ryan@kayoticlabs.com.  I want to hear your feedback about this utility idea.

Another Update

Okay so the server is back online, and I have many new ideas for the site / server.  All in a day's work.

House Cleaning

Okay so I did some house cleaning, and re coded what I lost.  I purged the skin files of skins that were not linked to anyone.  And cleaned up all duplicate skin entries.  So do not be alarmed if some of your skins disappeared, all that happened was skins that pointed to the same skin file were reduced down to one skin.  Because honestly why would you need to see two skins if they will both do the same exact thing.

The changes I made make it so if you upload a skin twice, it actually creates two different files.  When you delete a skin the file it is linked to is deleted.  If you want to update a skin, just upload the new one and delete the old one.  Soon I will make it so you can actually edit the skin name and description, once that is finished then I will get the public skin system finished up.

If anyone has any other suggestions for feature they want to see in the skin system at all, now is the time to let me know while I am in there working on it.

Edit:  I also changed the homepage a little bit, let me know what you think, or again, if you have any suggestions let me know.  You can respond to this post, post on the forums, or shoot me an email at ryan@kayoticlabs.com

An Update

Okay, so quickly:
- Skins actually delete from the server when you delete them from your skin library.
- I purged the unused skin files and database links that did not point to a file from the server.  If this in advertantly caused problems for anyone email me and we will work it out.  I have everything backed up so I can roll back some of the changes if need be.
- My game server is down for a bit, hopefully I will get around to adding the Nether Permissions in today, we will see.
- Almost done re-making, and rolling out this time, the changes that I lost by accident.  Once I have that done I can move onto the Server List :) (can't wait).
- There are now over 570 user accounts on the server with about 130 users consistently logged in. I am yet again floored by this.

I would like to take this time to say that I want to encourage feedback of any kind.  Tell me what you like about the site/service, tell me what you hate, tell me what you want to see, or just general comments or questions.  email me at ryan@kayoticlabs.com.  I am excited that this many people have found this service and are using it.  I can only hope that it will grow even further as I get more of these features out.

Until next time,
